5 Tips to Keep Little Fingers Warm in Winter

We’ve all been there. When we’re only ten minutes into a winter activity and one of our little people is missing gloves, red fingers, and crying, ready to go. After all that work getting everyone bundled and out the doors, it’s just so disheartening to have to leave because of cold fingers.

So here’s some tips to keep you out there longer!

5 tips to keep your little’s fingers (and your own!) warm this winter when you’re outdoors

  • ONE. Prep!

    • Make sure to fuel up before heading out. When you’re hungry, you get colder faster!

    • Throw your gloves onto the dash to get cozy before you get started outdoors. Start warm.

  • TWO. Pick mittens over gloves

    • Mittens keep fingers warmer over fingered gloves. Your fingers share warmth when they’re in a glove and there are less seams for heat to escape.

  • THREE. Avoid getting wet!

    • Dry waterproof gloves will make such a difference. Make sure the gloves are fully dry, not damp when you put them on.  And just like wool socks, bring an extra pair along.

  • FOUR. Wear liners.

    • Liners often have moisture wicking properties so your hands don’t get sweaty. They can be fleece or polyester. In a pinch we’ve used kids cotton gloves, but just be careful with these because if they get wet, hands get cold fast.

  • FIVE. Hand warmers.

    • Only use these if they’re not directly placed on skin. Direct contact can cause burns. But if you have some liners, throw them in the bottom of your mittens. Or throw them in a pocket and stick your hands in your pockets. Use your judgment when using these with really young kids.

Happy adventuring.
